Here is my pocket full of money...makes one feel wealthy!
The decorative use of stone appears everywhere. Simple and carefully designed...art is life, life is art here. The Balinese know that everyone is an artist. Wish we could recognize that at home.
There are dogs all over Bali. This must be the rare blue marked tricolor. What a variety I see every day!
Bamboo builds...ladders, staging, tools...all bamboo.
On the way to Amalia's warung, I see this Auto Clink. It always makes me laugh!
In Bali, you don't shop until you drop. You shop until there is no way to put your purchases on your vehicle.
Oil change, Bali style. Just like Jiffy Lube!
If you need more extensive service, parts, or a tuneup, just drive next door.
All along the 'big highway' (you must wear a helmet or pay a fine), there are many plant nurseries. Oh, how I wish I could bring plants home!
Hati - Hati
Be careful!
Many of you have seen the banners from Bali that I install at my home. The roots of the tradition are in these elaborate hand made decorations. Sometimes there are hundreds of them lining the streets for a celebration.
Selling these long beans....
they are delicious with peanut sauce (but, then, I guess everything is!).
Dewa told me that these were like soybeans...because they are beans, I imagine. He said Amalia likes them, so we bought some.
So, here is whole jackfruit. I have never hefted one, but they look heavy to me. The Balinese contain them in bags while still on the tree, so that they do not kill someone when they fall!
I could not transport one, nor did I have a machete with which to cut it up. I will continue buying sections at the Sanur market.
This is the fruit market where the locals buy produce. I bought a papaya and a lot of tempeh for Amalia's warung.
My first view of the market from above...isn't it beautiful?!
Looks like a hardware store to me...I would love to bring home so many baskets, but, alas, I am traveling by plane.
In small villages and large cities, these old temple structures reach for the sky.
Most construction is completely by hand here. As you can imagine, it takes a while!
Rows and rows of shops, all wanting one to 'look my shop'. I am not much of a shopper, but Christmas is coming!
